From your school

Form I-20, signed by you and the school official
Admission letter

Before the interview

Pay the SEVIS I-901 fee with the SEVIS ID from your I-20, and print the receipt
Fill out the DS-160 and print the confirmation page
Pay the $185 visa fee and book the interview
Set your social media accounts to public: required for F, M and J applicants since 2025
Passport valid at least 6 months beyond your planned stay

Bring to the interview

I-20, SEVIS receipt, DS-160 confirmation, appointment letter
Proof of funds covering at least the first year on your I-20: bank statements, scholarship or sponsor letter
Transcripts and diplomas, test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, GRE) the school used
Proof you plan to go home after your studies

After the visa

You can enter the US no earlier than 30 days before the program start date on your I-20
Carry your I-20 when you travel and report to your school's international office
